Muslim Quotes and other misconceptions

Readers' comments have moved me to try to clear up some evidently prevalent misconceptions about the Middle East. I wish to explain two simple matters. First Arabs and Muslims are two different designations. Muslim countries are not necessarily Arab countries. Second, the Quranic verse, "And you shall kill them wherever you find them" does not refer to all non-believers or to all Jews or Christians at all times. The explanation is a bit long.

Why kill a rabbi in Mumbai?

You probably never heard of Professor Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, and you weren't missing anything. But he knows about us. Hafiz Muhammad Saeed is the head of the Jamaat-ud-Dawah, which is another tentacle of the demented Lashkar-e-Taiba (Army of the Righteous) group that killed about 200 (or is it more now?) people in India, including 9 Jews. They admitted that they deliberately targeted Jews, and it is not surprising.

Drama in Sderot: Qassam attack, first person

Sderot this evening. I was on my way to look at another house with my realtor. Just as it was getting dark, I experienced my first ‘red' and then, my first Qassam.

Zionist Perspective: Terror Nightmare in Mumbai

About 195 persons are known to have been murdered in the terror attack in Mumbai India. Of these, at least eight were killed in the Chabad ("Nariman House") center. Four of the dead thus far have been identified as Israelis or Israeli Americans, including young Rabbi Gabi Holtzberg and his wife Rivka. The dead include Indians killed at random, Americans and British citizens who were singled out by the terrorists. According to Indian authorities, the death toll may rise to 350.

What Israeli and American Jews don't get

Another front has been opened in the Jewish wars. This new front must not be confused with the ongoing campaigns. It is not Zionists vs Anti-Zionists, Secular vs Religious vs Assimilationist, Right wingnuts vs Left wingnuts, Reform vs Conservative vs Orthodox or Sepharadi vs Ashkenasi. American Zionist Jews are taking on Israeli Jews and vv. This is a whole new battleground that opens new vistas for polemics and alliances. Norman Finkelstein can be there in the trenches side by side with Mort Klein and the Satmar Rabbi, fighting against a new found alliance between Uri Avneri and Moshe Feiglin.

Happy Palestine Day

The UN is marking Palestine day today, as it does every year. What is remarkable about this bizarre commemoration is that the UN is mourning its own General Assembly Resolution 181, which divided Palestine into Jews and Arab states.
