Libya, Iran,  Moroccan West Sahara Sudan, Syria, and Saudi Arabia have consistently been singled out as rights violators by Freedom House, by the US State Department and by groups such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. Torture of political opponents, disappearances, no elections, meaningless elections or one party elections, banned Internet sites, gender discrimination, death sentences for sex offences and religious offences and persecution of minorities are but a few of the problems in most of the countries of the Middle East.
