Jerusalem - Holy City of Islam
Jerusalem - a holy city to Jews, Christians and Muslims. Jerusalem means "City of Peace," but the city has had no peace in many years. For centuries, it was a backwater under Muslim rule. Jerusalem was always central to the Jewish people and the Jewish religion, as the capital of our ancient homeland. (See History and significance of Jerusalem to the Jews ). The ancient Jewish community of the Old City was attacked brutally in Muslim pogroms ( See Arab Riots and Massacres of 1929 In 1948, the eastern part of Jerusalem was purged of its remaining Jews by the Jordan Legion (see: The Ethnic Cleansing of Jerusalem). Bloody battles raged in Jerusalem, and around it. The city was blockaded by Arabs in an attempt to starve its Jewish inhabitants. After the war, in violation of armistice agreements, Jews were forbidden to enter the old city of Jerusalem until it was liberated in the 1967 Six Day War. For the first time in almost twenty years members of all religions could worship in peace and security in the world's holiest city, Jerusalem, the city of peace. Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem is not recognized by most of the rest of the world, but it is a fact. (see Don't let them forget Jerusalem). In 2000, the Arab Palestinians launched the "Al-Aqsa Intifada" named after the holy Muslim mosque of Al-Aqsa. Palestinian terrorists blew themselves up in supermarkets, in discotheques, in buses, in pizzerias and in the Hebrew University. These are images from Jerusalem, the city of peace, as it is treated by Islam, the religion of peace. This is the work of terrorism and hate in the city of Jerusalem.
