Richard Silverstein and civility in public discourse [Warning - obscene language]

[Warning again - obscene language]

Richard Silverstein has championed the cause of civility in the blogosphere and complained of his ill-treatment. He has been written up and advertises himself as self-righteous martyr to ill-mannered right wing Zionists who are trying to shut up poor Richard Silverstein and using discourteous language, and as an angel of peace and understanding who wants "Tikkun Olam."

Quoth the New York Times, no less, about the enlightened Silverstein:

For the last four years, Richard Silverstein has advocated for Israeli-Palestinian peace on a blog (richardsilverstein.com) that he maintains from Seattle.

People who disagree with his politics frequently leave harassing comments on his site. But the situation reached a new low last month, when an anonymous opponent started a blog in Mr. Silverstein's name that included photos of Mr. Silverstein in a pornographic context.

"I've been assaulted and harassed online for four years," he said. "Most of it I can take in stride. But you just never get used to that level of hatred."

Peace and light and Tikkun Olam, in the form of Richard Silverstein, are under assault by the evil forces of darkness. But the stalwart Silverstein, who loves everyone, never can get used to that level of hatred. Silverstein is a real paragon. His blog is called "Tikkun Olam." Silverstein will fix the world, as he knows what is wrong with it. His blog is decorated with a nice olive branch, symbol of peace.

Silverstein is not the only martyr. It will be remembered that the great Tikkunista Rabbi, the Gaon of the Bay Area, Rabbi Michael Lerner, was martyred by a violent war crime, an attack of impolite cartoons visited on his house by as yet unknown perpetrators.

Instead of turning the other cheek, Lerner called desperately for the evil right wing Zionists of the "Jewish World" to be silenced, and to end their attacks on his holy person. Specifically, he blamed Alan Dershowitz for the incident and other Elders of Zion who control the "Jewish world." In expiation, the "Jewish world" must repent before Lerner's God destroys them and expiate their sin by ceasing all criticism of Lernerthought.

Now Silverstein, the lamb of God, has joined with Lerner, the holier than thou spirit of the Tikkunistas, in attacking Dershowitz, and in teaching civility in discourse to the evil right wing conspirators of the Jewish world.

Reb Silverstein, our minds our open. We have come to learn. Please teach us civil discourse. This is what Reb Silverstein has to say in his very spiritual drasha:

Everyone knows all the jokes about the lying scumbag lawyers who talk out of both sides of their mouths and get paid for it. That's pretty much Alan Dershowitz to a T. [Emphasis added]
