People keep asking why Israel is hurting the poor innocent Lebanese. Indeed, over 200 Lebanese have died since their Hezbollah movement began its aggression against Israel on July 12 by crossing the border and attacking an Israeli army patrol. Surely many of the Lebanese victims were innocent civilians, just as innocent as the 13 Israelis who were killed by Katyusha rockers. On the other hand, if you have seen the films of the intensive bombardment, you may find it difficult to understand how "only" 220 civilians were killed. Bombing in densely settled cities, as in Falluja, in Yugoslavia, and in Berlin of World War II, usually kills thousands and tens of thousands.

Even one dead kid is one too many, and we must all hope for a speedy conclusion of this war. Unfortunately, civilians - children too - pay the price of their governments' policies. I am sorry for all those German kids killed in the bombing of Berlin and Dresden and Hamburg, as I am sorry for the Lebanese children. The German government was hi-jacked by Nazi gangsters. The Lebanese government has been hi-jacked by puppets of Syria and Iran. The Lebanese government explicitly supports the murderous racist Hezbollah. Here is what Lebanese President, Emile Lahoud, a Syrian puppet said on Al Manara television:

Nobody can defeat you. When we are united, we can remain steadfast and nobody will be able to defeat us. [applause] We know that when the liberation was achieved, it was a big blow to Israel. Now, they are retaliating. But, they will not succeed, because nobody is stronger than Lebanon when it is united and steadfast. I assert to you that they will cave in to the right in the final analysis. We say that we still have a land, prisoners, and many issues that need to be resolved. The United Nations
is working, but not as required. The more time passes by, the more Israel will destroy us and our
infrastructure. We can rebuild buildings. What counts is the people. You are the people and nobody
is stronger than you. [applause] The state, with all its components, and the entire cabinet are with you. We will meet all your requirements. We know that you are not worried about anything. But, it is our duty to stand beside you and help you. The Lebanese state should do all that it can. [applause and chants of support for Lahhud] Rest assured Lebanon will not give up Al-Sayyid Nasrallah [applause]. Al-Sayyid [Nasrallah], the resistance, and the national army achieved liberation for Lebanon. We will not forget that. This will be written in the books of history, no matter what the Israelis do.

Nobody else should forget it either. The Lebanese state and the Lebanese cabinet support the Hezbollah. Everyone applauded. Lahoud's remarks must be written in the books of history. Right now however, everyone is pretending that it is only the Hezbollah, as distinct from Lebanon, who are making war with Israel, and therefore Israel's response is "disproportionate."

The jews thinks that they can do wathever they want just because they dirty hands controls the media and banks aroud the world, and not to mention that they suck the americans.

You're completely right Juon. But: Why don't they bash Syria or Iran for that. The Hisbollah is not the Libanon. Far from it. Those terrorists are a problem for the libanese people and government. Today more then ever before. It's not right that innocent people have to pay for the aggressions of a terrorist group they don't even support.

I have read a lot of articles and it seems one sided.Every one wants ISRAEL to stop the attack. My question is what foriegn country allows someone to come in and kill there MILITARY and take a couple for there own pleasure.I feel ISRAEL should continue their pursuit.
ISRAEL is dropping warning Fliers and Broadcasting warnings for civilians to evacuate if the people do not want to leave, ISRAEL should not be singled out as the bad guy when they get killed.
FREE THE CAPTURED TWO MILITARY MEMBERS
AND A CEASE FIRE WILL BE CALLED.

For me the question is, 'Is Lebanon another ''Amona'' for Olmert to show how tough he is?'

I fail to comprehend the logic of the present frenzy to support the Olmert government's attack on Lebanon as if they know what they are doing, as we clearly saw they don't, from their failure to deal with the rocket attacks from Gaza. The government is known to consist of schemers and opportunists who do things for other reasons than for the good of Israel, so why not stop for a moment to assess whether the way they tackled the Hizb'Allah problem is actually going to achieve anything!

From the start PM-by-default Olmert correctly pointed out that Syria is actually the root of the problem, but that it is up to the international community to deal with the Assad regime. Which international entity would actually have an interest in dealing with Damascus, even though the Assad regime needs to be dealt with? It is yet again a manifestation of the lame Israeli policy to entrust others who don't have Israel's best interest at heart, to take care of security on her behalf, like the PA and Egypt.

To now destroy Lebanon in an effort to get at Hizb'Allah because the Lebanese government failed to disarmed them, is rediculous! How could they have done it with Syria controlling Lebanon with an iron fist the last twenty years? Hizb'Allah flourished with Syria being their link for support from Iran, which is even more reason to deal with Syria to cut off their support to Hizb'Allah before dealing with the latter. The reason for Olmert not to deal with Syria is simply cowardice; fearing what Iran would do and what Washington would say. Meanwhile the IDF has for a long time been ready to deal with Iran - especially to make sure that they don't acquire nuclear capability.

Prophetically, however, there is a rationale in this attack on Lebanon in that it might prepare the way for Israel to extend her kingdom northwards as in the days of kings David and Solomon:
...Solomon rebuilt Gezer.) He built up Lower Beth Horon, 18 Baalath, and Tadmor in the desert, within his land, 19 as well as all his store cities and the towns for his chariots and for his horses-whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon and throughout all the territory he ruled. NIV 1 Kings 9:17-19

Israel has to stop this war! I am German and we all should learn from the bad history my country wrote. What could the result be - right after the killings of hundreds (or thousends) of innocent people stopped? I can't believe that the future will be more friendly when somebody strong (Isreal) begins an ill-founded war just to demonstrate their power in the region.

I can understand that the state Israel has a special position in the middle east as it is a steady enemy in the eyes of some muslims, but i have the assumption that Isrealis do generalize muslims as enemies - and this is not a bit better than any other "black and white" view on the world.

I wish they stop this stupid bombing and both Israel as a country and terrorist groups like Hisbullah will be charged as hard as possible.

Mrdoubleb, Thursday, July 20th

Hitler only moderately hijacked Germany. The reality is that the Germans were infatuated with the mythos of Germans as Supermen long before and all he did was play on that. By claiming the Jews to be inferior subhumans compared to Germans, he played into this mythos and the people loved it. They were still upset with their great loss of the First World War.

The German public had no problem with killing Jews any more than the Lebanese public does. Or the Palestinian Arab muslims. The Germans were all guilty. So are the muslims.
