"Sex" is one of the most popular search words on the world wide Web, along with related terms. The most popular article in this Web log, and one of the most popular articles in the
Zionism-Israel Web site has nothing to do with anti-Semitism or Zionism or history. All those topics are B*O*R*I*N*G. The article is
Google, Sex and the Arab City which documented the fascination of the Arab world with this word. Of the thousands of pages at Zionism-Israel.com, that one article has accounted for over 2% of our html page views every week since it was published, just behind the main index page, and it is still going strong. An article about an
Egyptian Fatwa on adult breast feeding is another favorite, and draws about one percent of our page views currently.
Glen Greenwald at
Salon magazine complains that the media are full of vapid chatter about election gossip and don't concentrate on essentials. He thinks that is the fault of the media.
The fault, dear Glen, is not in the media, but in ourselves, and it was ever thus. In 1998, every media outlet was chock full of stories about Monica Lewinsky and "I did not have sex with that woman." Almost nobody mentioned
Osama Bin Laden and his Fatwas against America. Even though hundreds of people died in the US embassy bombings perpetrated by Al Qaeda in August of that year, and even though we now know that they were a prelude to the attacks of 9-11, Google lists only 162,000 pages for those bombings, versus over 1.4 million for good ole Monica Lewinsky. We can bet that each of those Monica Lewinsky pages get more visitors than those pages about embassy bombings, right? Which one would rather read about?

You, dear readers, ultimately determine what type of content is served up by the media. All over the world, B*O*R*I*N*G news programs are being replaced by infotainment.
I decided to check up on the current situation for searches for Sex and the F--- word in Google. Arab countries have been somewhat displaced from the lead, but Muslims and Arabs are still well represented. Remember that these data are "normalized" - the rank of the search word is shown relative to that of other search words in the same country, city or language. These are data for the last 12 months.

Language
The strong second place finish of the Arabic language, after Vietnamese, followed by Turkish is noteworthy. However, the Arabs and Turks and Vietnamese are hardly alone in their fascination with this word. Egypt, Indonesia, Morocco and Turkey are all among the first ten countries and deserve honorable mention at least.

Iran, which earlier was a strong contender for both Sex and F---, is no longer in the running. Presumably, the Mullahs have clamped down there. By the way, for search word "
Jihad," Indonesia is the top country, Indonesian is the top language and Jakarta is the main city.
