Believe me, I looked carefully at the text and the pictures before commenting. The problem is that this issue is no joke. A frivolous approach to this matter is, in my modest opinion, not appropriate if any of the recent accounts are true. This is not only about the ethical rightness of Zionism, it’s also about how a new generation of young people emerges from the conflict. One thing is for sure: it’s nothing about who the other side is. Their moral bankruptcy is one of the reasons they have not achieved self determination and statehood. The ethical foundations of Zionism have led not only to statehood, but define who the citizens of that state are and for many in the Jewish world, the nature of their identity. Errant behavior by soldiers and poor decision-making by commanders undermine those foundations.

Howard, tell me you're kidding, right?

So nu, is it a spoof as suggested by Ms Rosenfeld, or is this real reporting? I for one am confused.
Howard Wolf, Monday, March 23rd
A great spoof, Ami. Too bad it's only a spoof and not really what's being said all over or what seems to be the position of those so anxious to indict Israel for war crimes and totally blind to the crimes committed for years and years by the other side.
Marjorie Rosenfeld, Sunday, March 22nd
How unfortunate that we'll never, ever hear such talk (especially not from people such as a Richard Falk or members of HAMAS terrorist organizations) in "the real world." Only in satire...What a shame...

The Israeli soldiers never committed any atrocity in Gaza.
You can repeat your slanders as much as you want : lies are lies.
Leroidavid, Sunday, March 22nd
Very nice – so now its fine for Israeli soldiers to commit atrocities with impunity because Hamas and Jihad are on the other side?
There are two problems with this attempt assuaging the collective conscience which, by the way, is justifiably is outraged by this behavior. One is that by dint of such, Israeli commanders and soldiers can according to this logic, decide at will the life and death of innocent civilians in a war zone without scruples. The other, is that by highlighting how this is perceived by parties outside Israel, the ugly core issues that lie at the source of this behavior are swept under the carpet. We see similar callous brutalized behavior of soldiers represented not only in this instance but on a wider level: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1072466.html
Most Israelis find this shameful on every level. Just as shameful, is not taking responsibility and pointing to the other side.
The Robert Falks of this world are surely a problem and they have been given a free feeding frenzy - not by good reporting, nor by the right to speak up but through the lack of common-sense judgment by decision makers who should have seen this coming. Those who cast the lead must be wary not to sink under its weight.
