Suppose that you were alive and an adult in 1944 and got a letter that read something like this:

Dear xxx,
Germany is in crisis, and without addressing the urgent humanitarian needs there, the prospects for long-term peace and real security for Europe and the Jews will grow dimmer. We must act.

Despite repeated allied bombings, V1 and V2 rockets ontinue to land in southern England and residents still do not yet have true security.

The cruel British shipping blockade has deprived Germans of vital nutrients, clothing and housing materials. Red cross reports widespread anemia among Germans. Poor Helga has no milk for baby Fritz as she wanders about the burnt out ruins of her city. It is not her fault that she happened to live near the SKF ball bearing plant. There is not enough warm clothing in Germany. Poor Hans is freezing to death somewhere on the Eastern Front. Poor Fritz senior is freezing his toes guarding a concentration camp in Poland. He is not a soldier. He is a policeman - a civilian under international law. He serves in a police organization - the Sicherheitspolizei.

US tax dollars are being used to violate the human rights of German citizens. We must petition congress to pressure the British to stop the blockade of Germany.

Ask your Representative to sign two letters urging U.S. and British action to improve the desperate situation in Nazi Germany.

Suppose that such a letter was sent, not by the America First party, but by a "pro-Jewish" or "pro-British" organization? Suppose even that such a letter had been sent in World War I, when the situation in Germany was likewise "desperate." Even though the regime was not thoroughly evil, they were enemies at war with Britain.

Hamas is quite a bit worse than Germany in World War I. Their charter announces their intention to murder all the Jews in order to bring about the end of days, and if they have not done so yet, it is only because of lack of opportunity. As long as they remain in power in Gaza, there certainly can be no peace agreement. Hamas has often reiterated, most recently at their recent rally, their determination to "liberate" all of "Palestine." That is, to destroy Israel. Therefore it is hardly credible, though true, that the "pro-Israel" J Street organization sent a letter asking American Jews to support political action to help the Hamas regime by improving "humanitarian" conditions in Gaza. Unlike the case for Germany in the wars, the Gaza humanitarian crisis exists for the most part in the imagination of propagandists. Gaza shops are full. Gazans enjoy better health than many people in Middle Eastern countries by objective measures such as longevity and infant mortality. A fake "anemia" scare could only produce statistics showing that mild anemia was as prevalent in Gaza as in Saudi Arabia. J Street bought into this propaganda and wants to destroy the only lever Israel has to pressure the Hamas regime to release kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, and influence change in Hamas policies.

Here is some of the text of the unbelievable Hamas appeal sent out by J Street:

Gaza is in crisis, and without addressing the urgent humanitarian needs there, the prospects for long-term peace and real security for Israel will grow dimmer. We must act.

A year following Israel's military action in Gaza, rockets and mortars continue to land in southern Israel and residents still do not yet have true security. Israel's international standing continues to sink as a result of fallout from the war. Hamas's grip on the Strip remains strong.

A blockade on Gaza meant to weaken Hamas continues to deepen civilian suffering and anger there by preventing basic necessities and building materials from reaching the population...

[in side box, in large letters with a link] Ask your Representative to sign two letters urging U.S. and Israeli action to improve the desperate situation in Gaza.

The weapons blockade of Hamas is a joint initiative of Israel, the US and the EU. The others are doing it not so much because they love Israel ("unbreakable bond") but because they, unlike J Street, understand that Hamas is threatening peace efforts. The United States is helping Egypt build a gigantic wall and is installing other security measures along the Gaza border to eliminate the smuggling tunnels.

J Street believes knows better than Israeli, American and European authorities what will encourage the Hamas to make peace. Some nice cement to make bunkers, and some nice fertilizer that will be used to make explosives should really help to bring about peace, or maybe just some flour or other essentials that are confiscated by Hamas and sold to finance their weapons purchases.

If J Street is a "pro-Israel" organization, who needs the Palestine Islamic Jihad?

thank's for sharing this post. All of us know what a beating Israel has taken in the press. Newsweek's Michael Hirsh has taken note of Israel's bad image, but instead of naming the real culprit, he uses it as the occasion for another round of (relatively mild) Israel bashing. The entire problem, according to Hirsh, is Israel's inept public relations skills.
