Gaza: "Killing Children is Wrong"

"We hold these truths to be self-evident" says the American Declaration of Independence and, indeed, what could be more obvious than the above statement? But is there anything "right," for example, about a child born with mental or physical handicaps? "Ah," you will doubtless counter, "One (the child) is often unavoidable, unless you can detect it and believe in abortions, whereas the other (Gaza operation) is the direct result of a human action."

Shalom,
Rubik Danilovich, our new mayor, gave a fairly good response to the inane questions the journalists always ask.

The radio is saying that there was no warning, but at least in my neighborhood we heard it loud and clear. I wish they'd explain exactly how the system works; it could be interesting.

It seems one of the two falls hit in the play yard of the 'Rakefet' kindergarten, closed and empty of course in the late evening.

Thursday, January 8th

Gaza: What now?

Though it would be foolish to make a definitive pronouncement, it seems right now that we have seen a previous production of the Cast Lead movie, before. Some of the actors are better, and the location and plot are a bit different from the Second Lebanon War, but perhaps not essentially so.

Gaza: History in the remaking

Those outside of Israel are probably seeing a somewhat different war than we are. In particular, today's tragic incident in which IDF shelled a school and killed about 28 civilians, will probably be recorded as an unprovoked "massacre" that caused the end of the Gaza operation.

Gaza Street hero explains what the Gaza conflict is all about

The conflict in Gaza is not about rockets in Beersheba or a humanitarian crisis in Khan Yunis, or about killing civilians in a mosque, or Hamas use of human shields. It is about destroying a racist, genocidal group before it destroys everyone else.

One incident highlights the real issue of Israel's Gaza operation. On January 1, the IDF killed Hamas leader Nizar Rayan and several of his wives and children.

The "correct" progressive opinion about Gaza

The Israeli ground operation in Gaza, which begun this evening, will no doubt enhance the chorus of "progressives" calling for negotiations and concessions to the Hamas. The strange phenomenon of "progressives" advocating legitimation, concessions and peace treaties with odious and repressive reactionary regimes is not new. In the summer of 1939, the then champion of the "progressive camp" signed a peace treaty with National Socialist Germany. While there were some progressives who were unhappy with this treaty, most lauded the virtues of "peaceful coexistence. In those days, that position was called "the correct Marxist-Leninist approach" by right thinking people. Today it would probably be styled "politically correct" or "progressive."
