Gaza cease fire perils in one hard lesson

Only a few hours ago, I wrote a complex analysis of two other complex analyses of the existential question concerning Gaza: "Gaza: To negotiate a cease fire or not to negotiate.". Reality often simplifies the equations of strategic considerations. The Islamic Jihad fired 15 rockets into Israel while I was writing, illustrating two neglected details concerning the cease fire fantasy. That should put an end to consideration of the cease fire talk, but it won't.

Gaza answers: What is the question?

Below, Eran Lerman has written a sensitive analysis of the issues in Gaza, that more than hints at the real issues at stake. An INSS analysis by Shlomo Brom, The Real Choice: Ceasefire or Reoccupation of Gaza, states:

Israel's specific aim regarding the Gaza Strip is to stop the rocket fire from Gaza on Israeli populated areas. However, achieving the goal in the short term does not necessarily guarantee maintaining the achievement in the long term. Therefore, a better definition of the goal is to generate a long term stable situation in which rockets are not launched and there are no other threats from the Gaza Strip.
