Condolences for Rachel Corrie

To the parents of Rachel Corrie,
I am sorry for your loss. In 2003, your daughter Rachel became one of the many victims of the struggle between Jews and Arabs in the land of Israel, AKA (between 1917 and 1947) as "Palestine." I am sure that you love your daughter as much as every one of the bereaved parents and relatives of victims of the conflict loved their children. Your daughter was killed, apparently by accident, by a civilian bulldozer driver. I wish that Israel would open a full investigation of the matter and issue an apology, even if the death was purely accidental. As an Israeli, I apologize, but I can only do so as an individual.

Amnesty International: Tibetans and Palestinian Arabs get different treatment

Amnesty International has replied to my earlier post at Zionation Israeli crimes in Humsa and Hadidiya - Amnesty International Hoax, but their reply persists in perpetuating the inaccuracies and false claims of their original circular letter and adds some new ones.

Liberal Jewish Lobby vs Conservative Jewish Lobby

The prospect of a "Liberal" Jewish lobby, discussed by Gerhsom Gorenberg, has raised alarm bells in some circles. It should. "Liberal," it seems, can include anyone from Zionist Yossi Sarid to ant-Zionists Ilan Pappe and Norman Finkelstein, and even the reactionary Neturei Karteh, included in a New York Times article about "Liberal" Jews.

Washington Post: Unbearable lightness of lying about Israel

A prominently featured article by prestigious correspondent Scott Wilson in the Washington Post gratuitously maligned Israel. The article For Israel's Arab Citizens, Isolation and Exclusion ran on page A01 on December 20, 2007 and told a tale of woe and misery. Such articles usually abound in half-truths and distortions, but this one contained at least one outright falsehood. Wilson wrote, "Except for a relatively small Druze population, Arabs are excluded also from military service." Of course, it is not true. The Israeli army has Bedouin and city-dwelling* Arab volunteers. No amount of pleading with the Washington Post ombudsman could elicit a retraction, as Wilson insisted that his fable is correct. So here's the story.

Religious hatred: the movie

Permit me to tell you a tale of two movies that are really one. A European politician made a movie about a certain unfortunate religious minority. In the movie, it is claimed that the religion of this minority teaches them to be violent and bloodthirsty and to start wars. The politician wants to expel this minority from Europe.

If the minority are Muslims, and the politician is Geert Wilders, what is your position on this film? OK, now, if the minority are Jews, and the politician is Adolf Hitler, what is your position on this film?

Nakba: The Palestinian Refugee Problem Revisited

It is that time of year again. In a few days, there will be the usual spate of anti-Israel propaganda centered around the massacre at Deir Yassin, which whatever its size and circumstances, has certainly been magnified absurdly out of proportion to its real importance, and turned into an all-powerful explanatory device and "edifying" moral tale. In about a month, there will be a torrent of accusations concerning the "Nakba" (disaster) perpetrated by evil Zionists to "ethnically cleanse" Palestine, who allegedly forced the flight of anywhere from 600,000 to 800,000 Arab Palestinians in 1948.
