Israel and Zionist advocacy: A new era

For the past eight years in particular, but even before, the Israel advocacy volunteer community in the United States was increasingly identified with the United States Republican party, with right wing neo-conservatism and Christian Zionist Evangelism. The counter-historical myth was fostered that only Republicans are true friends of Israel, and that Zionism had some necessary relation with Republicanism and Republican values.

We need all the allies we can get, but not at the expense of other opinions. About half of Americans are Democrats - what the neo-conservative pundits and bloggers often call "left wing radicals."

Silly optimist that I am, I thought that with the end of the USA election campaign, the flood of silly season emails would dry up. (See Get with it: Obama hopes and fears. It has not dried up. It has in fact, gotten sillier if anything.

Punishment for self hating anti-Israel Jewish traitors

Every day there is another disturbing and embarrassing example of the work of self-hating Jews. The saddest part of the anti-Zionist and anti-Israel campaign are the degrading exhibitions put on by these self-hating anti-Israel and anti-Zionist traitors. The most hurtful and vile accusation made by these people is that Zionism = Nazism. But the accusation that may cause the most damage in terms of Israeli lives is the insistence that the Security Fence is an Apartheid separation wall and a land grab, that is not needed for Israeli defense against terror. The hallmark of recent anti-Zionist propaganda since about 2003 is the propaganda against the fence.

Get with it: Obama hopes and fears

We must all at least be thankful that with the end of the U.S. election campaign, the stream of silly season propaganda will dry up. There is always a silver lining.

Any thinking person who supports Israel has to be anxious about the possible policies of the soon to be leader of the free world, and that would be true of just about any candidate, especially one who is a virtual unknown. Friends of Israel have good reason for concern. Barack Obama's one time friendship with Abunimah and Khalidi, his quaint ideas about "engaging" Iran, and some of his advisers are certainly not going to soothe anyone's fears on that score.

Monday, November 3rd

Obama, McCain, Israel - One last time

Over the past months I have been bombarded with e-mails urging me to vote for this or that candidate because he is "good for Israel." I decided that I will not vote for either Barack Obama or John McCain for two reasons. The first is that I live in Israel, and I do not think it is fair to vote in the elections of the United States until and unless I take up permanent residence there again. The second reason is that we are offered a choice that does not appeal to me, mostly for reasons into which I will not get. If I lived in the US I would face a tough dilemma, despite my genetic adherence to the Democratic party and my conviction that having an African-American as president would be wonderful for the United States, and despite my admiration for John McCain's sincerity and his willingness to sacrifice for his country.
