Sari Nusseibeh versus MEMRI: What is the truth?

Sari Nusseibeh is probably the most controversial figure in Palestinian politics. He has co-initiated and popularized the Ayalon-Nusseibeh agreement calling on Arab Palestinian refugees to give up the 'right' of return to Israel in return for an equitable two state solution. During the hysteria in Britain about academic boycotts of Israel, Nusseibeh led the way in condemning boycotters and calling for dialog and academic freedom. At the height of the suicide bombing attacks, when they were supported by nearly 80% of the Palestinian Arab public, he organized a petition by Palestinian intellectuals calling for an end to suicide bombing.

Jesus get your gun: Quakers for guns

We know that Evangelical Christians are often opposed to gun control. It was surprising to learn that the Christian Peace Teams of Hebron, who claim affinity with the Quakers, are in favor of war toys for kids. They have uncovered a grave human rights violation by the IDF: IDF is violating the right to bear toy arms.

During the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr (the festival of fast breaking), marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, children receive Eid gifts: new clothes, toys and sweets.

A common Eid gift for boys is a toy gun. Some are water pistols; some shoot little plastic pellets; some are ominously like the real thing.

Your tax money at work: Hired Assassins of the Americans and EU

The good citizens of the United States and the European Union and other donor countries will be interested to know how their aid money to support the moderate government of the moderate Mahmoud Abbas is used. Perhaps this is a matter for the U.S. General Accounting Office. It will be remembered that donor country aid is is provided to the Palestinian government to support the peace process. About half the Palestinian authority budget, presumably funded by the donors, goes to pay salaries in Gaza according to the Palestinians. There is a rationale for that, since it is better that salaries of PA workers are paid by the PA and European donors then if they are paid by Iran. The rest is used to pay for salaries and projects in the West Bank.

Unfair Witness: Alleged Christians of the CPT dehumanize Israelis

Christian Peace Teams (CPT) in Hebron distributes e-mail newsletters telling of their experiences. Depending on the author, they may be relatively fair or unfair, sometimes describing Jews in caricature racist terms that are familiar from a certain very unchristian regime, sometimes dehumanizing them in different ways. They focus on injustices, as they see them, that are done by the IDF and the Jewish settlers to the Arab Palestinians. Terror incidents against Jews are always reported in a minimalistic fashion if at all. A CPT person once explained to me that they report on what they witness, and they do not see the terror incidents. What one sees depends on what one wants to see. CPT refused to put a permanent presence in Sderot. Presumably, if they saw the Qassam rockets, they would have to report on them. Out of sight is out of mind.

Help! Rape!

It is my duty to report several cases of rape, a very serious crime. As it is only truth and science that are being raped, and not Paris Hilton, it is perhaps not as interesting as the title may have suggested to some of you. You have possibly heard of this notorious case, which concerns the rape of facts and science by several people including a Masters degree student, two journalists, and several anthropologists and sociologists. This gang bang was given sensational billing in "Makor Rishon" and Israel National News. I apologize for this lengthy review. Much of the length is due to inclusion of translations and paraphrases of large portions of the Masters thesis in question, so that people who cannot read Hebrew have a more complete and correct impression of its contents. Moreover, in spite of itself, this unprovoked attack on the IDF includes a sterling testament to the ethical standards of our soldiers, an exposition of the IDF Ethical Code and the way it is instilled in our troops. It is such a marvelous bit of Zionist advocacy that I could not resist bringing it to the attention of the general public, that doesn't read Hebrew.

The first journalistic rape was committed, it seems, by Amnon Lord in Makor Rishon. Lord reported that a study by Tal Nizan had claimed that IDF soldiers are like war criminals because they do not rape Palestinians. The headline (translated from Hebrew) was "Rape Refuseniks compared to war criminals.". He forced the virgin facts.
