Collective Punishment: Qassam Rockets Kill - the Agony of Sderot Since this was first written - Qassam (Kassam) rockets have claimed two more victims: Faina (Fatima) Slutzker 57, was killed on November 15, 2006. Maor Peretz, a security guard, lost both legs in the attack.  An attack on November 19, resulted in the death of Yaakov Yaakobov 43, two days later. COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT: Murdered in the Qassam Blitz Dorit Binisian age 2, Sderot Yuval Abebah, age 4 Sderot Afik Zahavi (Ohayun) age 4 Sderot Mordehai Yosepov, Age 49, Sderot Dana Galkowitz, Age 22, Kibbutz Bror Hayil (Killed in Netiv Haasarah) Ella Abukasis, age 17, Sderot On February 9, 2008, 2 brothers aged 8 and 19, Osher and Rami Tuito (Twito)  were hit by a Qassam rocket in Sderot as they went on a shopping errand. They younger brother lost his leg.

Palestinian terrorists have launched over two thousand homemade Qassam (or Kassam) rockets at Sderot and other towns and Kibbutzim around Gaza since 2001. The rockets keep getting larger and more lethal. The current version has a range of 10 km and carries a payload of 10-20 KG of explosives.

The rockets also cause hundreds of thousands of dollars of property damage. The constant rain of rockets makes normal life close to impossible.  Warnings and military demonstrations did not stop the rocket blitz. The international community did nothing. A demonstration against the rockets was interrupted by a rocket.

Everyone knows the names of a few Palestinians killed or allegedly killed by Israel in operations to counter terror. Nobody remembers the names of the victims of the Qassam rockets. Remember at least these six: Dorit (Masarat) Benisian, 2 (also listed as Dorit Insu in some places), Afik Zahavi, 4, Mordechai Yosepov, 49, Yuval Ababeh, 5 , and Ayala-Haya (Ella) Abukasis, 17 of Sderot, and Dana Galkowicz, 24  of Kibbutz Bror Hayil (killed in N'tvi Ha'asarah). None of these people are soldiers. None of them had anything to do with "occupation." Sderot and N'tiv Haasarah are not strategic targets.
